- Trail Info
|2015 Projects||Project Notes||Comments re Status @ Oct 2015|
|Hospital Hill Playpark||J Harvey project management for this project, STS volunteer hours, STS material donations, leveraging non-profit status and supporting with treasury capacity||Done (Fall 2015) Some add-ons will continue, such as Monkey Bars already ordered, and potential ‘Treehouse’ later this fall/winter|
|Wonderland||More tweaking planned for this winter as resources permit (in collaboration with SORCA), since folks go around bridges and make trail wider.||Done / ongoing … continued maintenance work in progress as volunteer time permits|
|Garibaldi Highlands Elementary School Mike Weeks Trail||Mike Weeks Trail improvements (with GHE) to make trail more accessible||Done (spring 2015)|
|Tim Horton’s Trail – refers to abandoned trail across the highway from Tim Horton’s that connects to Logger’s Creek Trail.||Especially if improved it would get traffic off Finch. Needs some gravel and a few culverts.||Brushback Brigade has done some work, additional work may be needed.|
|Turtle Trail||Supporting Meg Fellowes’ leadership, raising awareness, installing temporary tail markers||Temporary trail markers 80% complete
Fall ride-alongs and brochures planned
District investigating permanent routing and work to be done
|Estuary Trails||Noted that with removal of Westbarr log sort the trail network-from South Loop, North Loop, Cattermole Trails and Swan Trail would benefit from reassessment. Loss of large bridge on South Loop seen as a big loss / problem / challenge.
All stakeholders need to sit down and set some goals, standards and possibly some limitations to reduce impacts.
Keen on mitigating some of the rootier, muddier sections of the south end of Swan Trail by gravelling over some of the larger roots and filling low sections.
Squamish River Watershed Society project ongoing http://www.squamishwatershed.com/central-estuary-brownfield-restoration.html
Has not yet been an active project by STS
|Hospital Hill / Valleycliffe / Mamquam Blind Channel Trails||STS has provided advise to developer and Upper MBC planning process.
Continue STS involvement in planning of the trail and non-motorized connections in this area. Ideas:
- landscape stars on steep hospital hill trail (just upgraded by DoS)?
- foreshore trail and under South side of Hwy 99 Bridge
- connections to and from the future MBC pedestrian bridge
-Rose Park improvements
|TBD, need to keep in the loop
Ensure Planning Dept continues to oblige Kingswood to build pedestrian bridge in Phase one of development
|Thunderbird Creek Trail||Pia to Coho Park-could use some attention.||On the list for funded summer/fall trails crew to address.|
|Merrill Park access||DoS has notified neighbours and STS has scoped out work to develop access points to Merrill Park||First trail access point off Highlands Way North (of 4 access points) is being studied with Scott Lamont, should begin soon with simple low-key trail development, with roadside access signage to follow.|
|Trailhead amenities||Smoke Bluffs is looking into recycle containers at trailheads. May be appropriate other places?
No Motorized Vehicles signage is also being looked at for trailheads/gates.
|All Smoke Bluffs park trail head locations are in discussion. SBPAC intends to enlarge main Parking Lot and redesign gateway access in 2016. STS Keep tabs on this.|
|Little Stawamus Valley Drive Connector Trail||Investigating re-build / improvement of washed out trail. A collaboration between STS, Streamkeepers and Sq River Watershed Society will hopefully bear fruit with DFO endorsement.||STS in discussion with Squamish River Watershed Society. A fortification of one section of riverbank appears to be the most favourable plan for improvement. DFO authorization and funding required, and some STS support (and possibly funding)could help move it forward-perhaps an item for further discussion.|
|Not substantively started|
|Brennan Park Connector||STS has investigated upgrades previously (with prelim advice from trailbuilder) and we have some idea of the costs for engineered design. Also need to amend the current ROW (for infrastructure) to include public non-motorized access.||Costly but important neighbourhood connector project, has not been further explored.|
|Brennan Park Connector||STS (John H) has discussed significant commitments from SVMP, Solterra and others. Could ask for support from all businesses in Walmart / Home Depot / new business park.
Some sport / community groups have expressed considerable reservations about the project due to concerns that vandalism will occur on all-weather Fields.
|Routing and environmental study completed in previous year.
Current status is 'dormant.'
|Judd Slough Bridge||Bridge is still hanging in there, but will need work if it is to survive. Project needs to move forward. Private property issues are still current.||Has not been pursued.
STS has had discussions with property owner in previous year
|Bill's Place to Highlands Way North Trail upgrades||This trail is very steep and eroded, needs a more permanent design solution.||Engineering Dept had raised concerns regarding slope stability many years ago.|
|Signage Wayfinding||Replacement of all existing signs and more trail signage within new design parameters.||STS is participating in stakeholder committee and engagement opportunities for the DoS wayfinding project|
|Mashiter Trail from University Bridge down to creekside...which would ultimately connect to Mamquam Rd.||The existing trail, around the water tower near Mashiter Bridge (University Blvd) is generally fine, and seems to only needs small repairs to be safe.||Paco Road area needs clarification - including remediation requirements, future public access intentions (re: former riparian setback encroachment at former Auto Recycling Depot)|
|Upper MBC lands (Drenka estate)||Public park / trail use of these lands is an important link to Smoke Bluffs Park.||Private ownership, no public access.|
|Swan Trail||Some work needed to smooth out the roots and repair/replace culvert||Volunteer project to proceed as time permits|
|Repairs to bridge approaches||Repairs required in popular bike areas such as Mamquam spawning trails (Golf Course Trailsand nature trail (Loggers Creek area south of Finch Dr.)||To proceed as resources and time available|
|Bike Lanes Pruning||Need to keep foliage from blocking bike lanes||Clarify responsibility|
