2020 Projects List

Trail Projects Proposed and Accomplished

  • Finishing the Tantalus to Depot Trail (and the adjacent fence at the east end of Depot) - Looking Glass Trail now completed

  • Improving the accessibility of the trail through the Westwind site between the Heron Trail and Swan Trail -Will look for additional funding and move to 2021

  • North Dyke trail access and board walk - Some of the work to be completed by Dec 2020

  • Planning for connectivity of Holborn Park to adjacent green corridors - Will continue to monitor but will be a long range plan

  • New Green Circle trail in Alice Lake Provincial Park Joint project with SORCA

  • Smashiter - Deferred to 2021 or beyond

  • Valleycliffe Lil Stawamus Creek Trail to Plateau Drive Westway intersection - Deferred to 2021

  • Continued improvements to Smoke Bluffs Park Main Trail - Completed but may need more improvements in the future

  • Estuary and WMA trail maintenance agreement - Waiting for approval from Squamish Nation headquarters

  • Further Senior Smoothers' Projects - Submission for another project has been sent

  • Brush Back Brigade - In 2020 there were 182 hours of volunteer work and 6.7 km of trails brushed back

  • The Sea to Sky Clean-up and Signage - 8 signs were put up from Depot Rd and North

  • Town dike trail between Third Ave. and Vancouver street needs grading to remove centre hump and make it wheelchair accessible - DOS will be doing dike improvements so no point in fixing this until the DOS work is completed

  • Amblepath trail south entry needs rerouting to reduce slope and make it more accessible for prams and strollers - Just got approval to proceed with work and will go ahead in 2021

  • Refuge island in Upper Mamquam Blind Channel - deferred….no date planned

  • Work with CN Rail to establish safe, rolling railway crossings at trail intersections - One left to do at the entrance to the Heron Trail off Main St

  • Bill's Place Trail. Geotech has already prescribed a plan. - Won’t be taken on at this point

  • Picnic benches and picnic tables near trails- with viewpoints and no danger trees - DOS has a policy in place for memorial benches. We have two approved sites on the Mamquam River and will look for contributors on our website

  • Trail from south end of Swan to Terminal Lead, very muddy in sections (especially when tide is high near pile of rocks, very slithery, cycling tracks) - done

  • Top end of McNaughton trail in Valleycliffe, near the Tennis courts, muddy. - done

  • The new Huckleberry trail blocked off for new road construction - open all the way to Blind Channel now
